George Koons

George Koons is the Vice President of Operations at Black Sand Capital Group and the co-founder, with Tyson Snook, of SourceAxis — the technology and operations backbone of the firm. SourceAxis builds and runs the data, systems, and digital infrastructure that tie Black Sand’s divisions together across insurance, real estate, the private family office, and every other vertical, so the ecosystem operates as one connected firm rather than a set of separate businesses.

As VP of Operations, George runs that infrastructure day to day. He oversees the data, automation, and systems that connect every part of the business — from a client’s first point of contact through years of ongoing strategy — building the connective tissue that lets a small, high-touch team operate with the reach and consistency of a much larger one. His work is the quiet layer beneath the client experience: the reason inquiries are answered quickly, information moves cleanly between the firm’s strategists, and details never fall through the cracks.

George brings a distinctive background to financial services. Before Black Sand, he worked in visual effects and design — disciplines where precision, systems thinking, and an unforgiving eye for detail are the entire job. That same standard shapes how the firm operates today, with every process built to be measured, refined, and improved.

Outside of his work, George is drawn to travelling, exploring new places, and continuous learning. He brings that same curiosity and intention to the systems he builds and the clients the firm serves.
