Tax Strategy

Business owner reviewing a tax bill at his desk

Your CPA reports on last year. We plan next year.

If your last tax bill felt like more than it should have been, you're not alone. Most of the business owners and high earners we meet have a good CPA who files accurately, takes the standard deductions, and reports what already happened. What's often missing is someone looking ahead and asking what could be done differently.

That's the work we do. We look at your whole situation, including your business, your income, your retirement plans, your real estate and your family's long-term goals, and bring a much wider set of planning strategies to the table. Then we coordinate with your CPA and attorney so everything is carried out correctly.

There's still time, and there's next year

Before year-end: Some strategies can still apply to 2026 if they're put in place in time. Certain retirement plans, for example, can be set up after the year ends and still count toward 2026. The window is real, but it is closing.

For the long term: The bigger goal is making sure a bill like this doesn't catch you off guard again. That takes a plan built around your business and your income, not a scramble every spring.

Strategies we bring to the table

  • Retirement plans built for high earners. Cash balance and defined benefit plans can allow far larger tax-deductible contributions than a 401(k) alone.
  • Business structure and owner compensation. How your company is organized, and how you pay yourself, can change your tax picture every year.
  • Planning before a sale. The years before you sell a business or property are when the most can still be done.
  • Insurance as a planning tool. Properly structured life insurance can provide tax-advantaged growth, liquidity and estate benefits.
  • Real estate and charitable strategies. Exchanges, timing and giving strategies matched to your goals.

Is this for you?

It usually is if your income or business has grown faster than your planning, if this year's tax bill surprised you, or if a sale or other major change is coming. You don't need to bring us everything at once. Many clients start with this one conversation.
